Victoria swung a pretty big deal yesterday, hooking up with their provincial rivals from Vancouver.

The Totems landed netminder Nikolai Khabibuhlin, as well as veteran defenceman Steve Staois. In exchange they sent left winger Frederick Modin and young defenceman Karel Rachunek to Vancouver.

"We felt this shored up a position that was a weakness for us last year," said GM Shawn Macdonald, "Nik should keep us in every game and Steve will help to replace some of the leadership we lost when we dealt Scott Stevens."

The move was the first since the GWHL entry draft. With Khabibuhlin, Giguere, and prospect Lehtonen now in the system, it doesn't look like goaltending will be an achilles heel for the Totems any longer.
