The Saskatoon Silos wasted little time in dealing one of their waiver draft pickups, with the team trading right wing Shean Donovan to the Victoria Totems. Coming over to the Silos is another waiver draft selection, defenseman Pavel Trnka.

Given the depth that the Silos have on the wings, the team felt they could afford to acquire the developing rearguard Trnka.

"Pavel will give us a mobile defenseman with some intensity and developing defensive abilities," said Silos GM Ken McKenna. "Although Donovan is a good player, we felt that Pavel fit into our plans a bit better at this time. We would have taken Trnka in the waiver draft had Victoria not chosen him right before our pick."

The team may still need to address the depth at right wing for the future, but the GM feels that the club has enough to work with for the coming season.

"There are a couple of players that we could move to the right side if need be, since we have a glut at left wing," explained McKenna. "We don't have a bona fide sniper, of course, so we'll have to do things by committee the way we did last season. And we can't rule out other trades, of course."
