In a move to bolster his club's lineup, Saskatoon GM Ken McKenna today acquired left winger Stu Barnes from the B.C. Huskies.

Going to B.C. is reserve right winger Richard Park, plus a 2006 third round pick acquired in a previous deal.

In Barnes, the Silos are receiving a savvy veteran to patrol the left side, but one with a fairly hefty $4 million-per-year contract.

The timing of this move makes it clear that the GM now thinks that his team could contend for a playoff spot. To that end, McKenna said nothing to change that thinking.

"I'm pleased with the way our club has performed up to this point," said the GM. "I think their efforts deserve some recognition, and I think adding Stu to our club will be a positive in both the locker room and on the ice."

Barnes is not expected to be in the lineup for the team's next game in Montreal, but will most likely make his debut in the following game.
