Subject: Islanders impressive but GM still cautious.

Yes, the record is impressive. 14 wins 8 losses and 3 ties is likely the best start in franchise history past the quarter mark of the regular season. GM Vansickle is not a calm man though. He wasn't expecting his team to pull together like this until next season and he is a little perplexed at the record.

If you break down the stats you can see why. The stats in this case do seem to be not telling the whole story. A 6-6-1 home record and a 5-5-1 conference record certainly are not impressive. The team has scored as many goals as they have allowed and only 1 player is over 10 goals at this point. One of their best players is an attrocious -15 already and the team has been playing their backup goalie, Mike Dunham, for over 10 games now.

Odd indeed, but GM Vansickle is not complaining.

"I think its a great experience builder for our team. This is the first time they've been in any sort of playoff spot for a couple of years and even if we don't make it this year it will really help next year which is what we have been shooting for."

Whatever it is, it is nice to see old Red Rock Stadium at nearly capacity these days.
