[Saskatoon, SK] A few veteran players in the Saskatoon Silos organization have been sent packing by the club, signaling the teams further emphasis on youth.

The contracts of center Marty Murray, and left wings Stu Barnes and Pascal Rheaume have been bought out by the Silos, with those players now being free to latch on with another club.

The team also announced that free agent left wing Mike Leclerc would not be re-signed. In addition, all indications are that right wing Ulf Dahlen will not be back in the fold next season.

The moves did not come as a surprise to anyone that has followed the club, since the feeling is that there are younger players coming along that will fill those positions before too long.

"We appreciate the service those guys gave to the club the past couple of seasons", said GM Ken McKenna. "We feel that we'll improve from within this coming season, though, and we have other kids in the pipeline that aren't far from turning pro."

The moves save the club a fair amount in salaries, which might leave them enough room to go after a free agent or two.

"As long as the cost isn't too ridiculous, we might be players in the free agency derby", said the GM. "I'm of the opinion that this club can challenge for a playoff spot this coming season, so adding a couple of vets to help us achieve that goal is not out of the question."
