In what could be viewed as a minor deal for the Saskatoon Silos, at least compared to some that have gone down this season, the team sent young defenseman Niclas Wallin to the the B.C. Huskies in exchange for veteran defenseman Dave Karpa.
Karpa is viewed primarily as a depth player who will, for the moment, at least, be added to the Prince Albert roster.
"Dave is your basic, stay-at-home defenseman", said GM Ken McKenna. "There is nothing flashy to his game, but he can be a physical presence in front of the net. While we didn't necessarily want to part with a younger d-man like Wallin, we thought 'Karps' could be useful to us should injuries arise on the blueline."
Saskatoon appears to be getting a jump on the GWHL trade deadline, which is less than two weeks away.
"We didn't have much luck making deals right before last season's deadline", explained the GM, " so I've decided to make a couple while I still can."
Does this mean there are more to come? "Maybe, maybe not!", the GM said with a wink.
