(VICTORIA)- A year ago the Halifax blueline sported such players as Robert Svehla and Al MacInnis and didn't get the job done in crunch time. This years version with new arrivals Greg deVries, Brent Sopel, and Matthias Ohlund seems to be doing a better job. Against Victoria tonight 5 of the Harpoons 6 goals came from the blueline including a natural hattrick by team Captain Rob Blake. "Can't remember ever having one of those in professional hockey," chuckled Blake afterwards. "I guess it was just my night." Indeed despite the score, the blueline did an admirable job and was victimizewd by some shoddy goaltending on Sean Burke's part. "Sometimes you are going to have a bad night out there," commented Blake. "He saved the game for us many times in the past." Also counting for Halifax were fellow blueliners deVries, Brian Leetch and center Ron Francis who has shaken off a horrendous start to the season and now finds himself with 16 goals and 38 assists on the year. Scoring for Victoria were Chris Chelios, Scott Young, Sergei Fedorov, and Trevor Linden.

Making his debut for Halifax due to Milan Hejduk's sprained wrist was right winger Radim Vrbata who lined up with Eric Lindros and Marian Hossa on the team's #1 unit. "He played well tonight," stated Lindros after the game. "The scoring will come in time, he didn't hold us back at all."

After the game a statement was released that veteran center Igor Larionov had bee obtained from the Quebec Remparts for an undisclosed amount of cash. "You can never have enough experience," commented GM Stephen J. Holodinsky.
