If the London Lasers wanted to build some momentum towards the playoffs, they could not have picked a better time to start. The league leading Halifax Harpoons, who will go into the record books as one of the greatest GWHL teams of all time, paid a visit to the Laserdome on Friday. The Lasers showed no signs of being intimidated though, jumping out to a 3-1 lead after the second period. The Harpoons showed their depth though, battling back to take a 4-3 lead at the 14:04 mark of the third. But Keith Primeau would come back just 41 seconds later to tie the game and send it to overtime. There, the Lasers top line jumped into the act, as Petr Sykora recorded his 34th of the season at the 3:11 mark to send the Laserdome into hysteria. "We needed to prove that we can beat these guys." stated Sykora in a post game interview. "We know that to win the Hoser Cup, we'll have to get by Halifax at some point. So it's nice to prove to ourselves that we can beat them." The win was also important to the Lasers for another reason, in that it moved them two points up on Ottawa in what has become a hotly contested race for top spot in the North East division, and the number two seed in the Eastern playoffs. The Lasers, who are now 8-1-1 in their last 10 (the afore mentioned Oaks, at 9-1-0 are the only team hotter as of late.) will try to continue their winning ways as of late with a visit tonight to Steeltown.
