Subject: Silos Could Have a New Look Next Season

Following a tough five-game series loss to the Halifax Harpoons in the Hoser Cup finals, Saskatoon Silos' GM Ken McKenna has set about the task of possibly revamping his team's lineup for the 2004 GWHL season.

The process appears to already be in motion, as the Silos have traded right wing Radek Dvorak to the Quebec Remparts in exchange for two 2004 draft picks.

The team must also decide whether or not they will re-sign head coach Bob Hartley, whose contract ran out at the end of the season. Given the fact that Hartley has had some success with this club, it seems like a fairly safe bet that Hartley will be back in the fold for 2004 and beyond.

The lineup that Hartley could be coaching may be radically different than the one he took to the finals this year, however.

"There could be some changes in store," acknowledged McKenna. "We've got a few guys that are getting older, so we might need to replace some of them. This could be a younger team for the 2004 season."

Some of the candidates for non-renewal of their contracts include right wings Robert Kron and Kelly Buchberger, left wings Dave Lowry and Denis Hamel, and defensemen Richard Pilon, Marc Bergevin and Hans Jonsson. The GM has yet to make a decision on all of these players, however.

"It'll come down to whether or not we think this team can compete like we did last season," stated the GM. "It may be time to think about rebuilding if we decide that we won't be as good."

In moving Dvorak, McKenna has added a couple of picks for the upcoming draft, but he has also left the team with mostly inexperienced players for the right side. The GM wanted to add a couple more picks for the 2004 GWHL Draft, however, so he had to give up a player to get those picks.

"We've got our first round pick back for this draft," said a pleased GM, "and we've added another third-rounder. That gives us five picks in this draft, so I think we'll be able to add some good talent to what we already have. Some think that there isn't a lot of top talent in this draft, but I thik we can pick up some good players if we do our homework."
