Montreal, QB - The building continues in Montreal, even during the post-playoff lull. In an effort to continually improve the young and currently win-deficient team, GM Sean Gallagher has begun discussions on many fronts. The first resulted in yet another new goalie entering the Marauder fold.

Martin Biron, who was being squeezed out of the rotation in goalie-heavy Quebec, was acquired recently for a second round pick next year and a third during the following draft. Biron is the youngest goalie in the Montreal stable, but the team's most promising netminder may spend next season in the minors.

"Marty has had a rough go lately, but he's young and a great fit for our growing club," said Gallagher, "I expect him to get the benefit of some good coaching and plenty of minutes to improve his game. I don't know if that's in Montreal or on the farm. We gave up plenty to get him, but feel he's a great fit for our club, even if he can't help immediately."

Montreal plans to make a few more moves before the beginning of next season, and apparently no one is really out of the shadow of the tradeable asset.

"We happen to have some room available for the waiver draft," said Gallagher, "we have fewer than the alotted slots to fill, and there may be teams that risk losing a good guy for nothing. We're seeing what is available. For a lot of teams, it's better to trade a guy to us and get something for him, rather than lose him in the waiver draft. Discussions are ongoing."

As for his current needs, Gallagher left the door wide open.

"We have no definite needs we absolutely have to fill, but we are open to discussions. No one on this team has a no-trade clause, either formal or informal. If a good deal appears, we will make it."

In other off-ice news, the Marauders announced that after post-season interviews with the players, next year's leaders will be Captain Michael Peca and Alternate Captains Adam Deadmarsh and Bryan McCabe. The news means that Pierre Turgeon was stripped of his 'A', further solidifying the well-known fact that he is available for trade to anyone willing to trade any breathing body or a draft pick for him.
