(HALIFAX)-The first shoe has dropped in Halifax. Faced with a glut of forwards and not enough places next year for all of them the Harpoons have moved highly regarded youngster Ilya Kovalchuk to the Whitehorse Warriors. Coming over from the Western Conference team is center prospect Nik Antropov, Edmonton's 1st round pick in 2007 which Whitehorse held the rights to and Whitehorse's 1st round pick in 2009. Completing the deal is B.C.s 3rd rounder in 2007 which Halifax held the rights to going on to Whitehorse.

"Ilya is a good player now and may well be a great player down the road," explained Harpoons GM Stephen J. Holodinsky. "But the fact of the matter is, even with his point a game pace this year in limited action, he wasn't going to make the big club. Rather than having him stagnate under the wingers we have now, we decided to get something for him while the getting was good. Antropov is someone we scouted heavily and we believe he'll breakout in the next few years and be another dominant big man. As you know, we like being big down the middle."
