The offseason re-shaping of the Saskatoon Silos' lineup appears to be in full swing, with Silos GM Ken McKenna making a couple more deals in the past couple of days.

In the first deal, playoff hero Jocelyn Thibault was shipped to the Montreal Marauders in exchange for defenseman Dirk Tarnstrom and Montreal's 2004 third round pick. A second deal went down today, with the Silos shipping their 2008 third round pick and some cash to Winnipeg for Victoria's 2004 third round pick.

The Thibault deal may leave some Saskatoon fans unhappy, since he played a role in helping the team reach the Hoser Cup finals. Saskatoon had a glut of goaltenders, however, and, with the waiver draft coming up, GM McKenna felt that the team might lose the goalie left unprotected.

"It's better to get something than nothing," shrugged the GM. "Jocelyn played very well for us during his time here, and we wish him the best. I think he is happy to be headed back home, though. I like the player, Tarnstrom, that we picked up in the deal- he should play for our club sooner rather than later, and he'll bring an offensive dimension to our blueline."

The Silos now have seven picks in the 2004 GWHL Draft, so the team's scouting department is currently very busy assessing the talent that is available.

"Our scouts tell me that, while this draft may be lacking in high-end talent," said McKenna, "there is good depth in terms of guys who will play in this league. It takes all kinds to build a good club, so the seven picks should serve us well."
