With Ken McKenna as the GM of the Saskatoon Silos, there is rarely a dull day at the sports desk at the Saskatoon Sun.

The Silos' GM completed yet another trade, this one with the Charlottetown Islanders. Heading to the Isles is prized prospect Mike Cammalleri, plus defenseman Nathan Dempsey and some cash.

Coming to Saskatoon is defenseman Cory Sarich and right wing Bill Muckalt.

The Islanders would be winners of this deal if Cammalleri plays to his potential, but the Silos are happy with the players they received in return.

"No question," stated the Silos' GM, "if 'Cammer' plays to his ability, Isles' GM Jesse Vansickle will be a very happy man. Mike has the skill to be a very special offensive talent. But, with prospects like Jeff Taffe, Derek Roy and Tuomo Ruutu in the fold, we felt we could afford to deal from that depth at center."

The key player for Saskatoon in the trade would appear to be Sarich. The lanky defender has the potential to be a sound defensive presence, but he is still developing.

"Cory is a guy we've liked for a while," ackknowledged McKenna. "We think he'll fit in well with the emerging group of young defensemen that we have in our system. As for Muckalt, he'll be a good depth player for our right side."

With the free agent derby beginning shortly, it is doubtful that the Silos will make any other deals for the near term. The team also is not expected to be active in the free agent market.

"There are a couple of guys we are looking at, but none of the more highly paid players," agreed McKenna.
