Subject: Montreal Continues To Move

Montreal - In accordance with tradition, Montreal traded their Captain today, sending Michael Peca and the team's franchise tag to Calgary in exchange for hard-nosed defender Jon Klemm, a 2d round pick in 2006 and playmaking centerman Brad Richards.

"Mike [Peca] was a big part of our team, and I had absolutely no intention of trading him," said GM Sean Gallagher, "but to be honest, this deal was good for both teams. We are young and building, and Calgary is ready to compete now. Peca is a logical fit for them, just as Brad [Richards] is for us. He's a natural fit here."

Richards is yet another young center that Gallagher has added and will likely play on the minor league team next year. The backlog of centers probably means that Montreal will begin looking for complementary wingers.

"I'm pretty happy with our defense and our goaltending futures, but we have an overage at center and probably need to move some players to get some wingers."

Rumored to be available are hard-charging Adam Deadmarsh and Jeff Friesen, as well as sniping LW Sergei Samsonov. Also rumored to be available are one or both of Tim Connolly and Patrick Marleau, as well as the always-available Pierre Turgeon.

"We'll do what we have to to fill out those positions," said Gallagher, "there will be some interesting days coming."
