The Saskatoon Silos figure to be a much younger team this season, with more evidence of that trend being offered today with the signings of three 2004 draftees.

Signing on the dotted line were left wing Niklas Hagman, right wing Vladimir Orszagh and defenseman Daniel Tjarnqvist. Silos' GM Ken McKenna indicated that both Orszagh and Tjarnqvist have an excellent chance of playing for Saskatoon this season, while Hagman will face some competition to land a roster spot.

"With the departures of some of our veterans," said McKenna, "we'll be counting heavily on some of our younger players to eventually pick up the slack. Our three signees today all have a chance to impact our lineup this season, which is something that hasn't happened much with this club in the past couple of seasons."

Indeed, the Silos have had just one player- Arron Asham - in their lineup the past two seasons who was considered a rookie, with Asham apprearing in just one game.

There is a possibility that more young talent could be added if any of the remaining veterans are moved in further off-season shuffling. The team's GM seems to be weighing the advantages of adding more young talent vs. icing a competitive team this season.

"If we were to stand pat now, we could probably be a competitive team," stated the Saskatoon GM. "Our goaltending and defense will be solid, so we won't be a pushover for most teams. Goal-scoring could be a problem, though."
