Subject: Silos, Totems Swing a Deal

There had been rumors for weeks that Saskatoon left wing Todd Marchant might be on the block, with those rumors becoming a reality late this evening.

Silos GM Ken McKenna continued the movement towards youth by dealing the speedy checking winger to the Victoria Totems in exchange for forward Dainus Zubrus and left winger Taylor Pyatt. Both players are under 25, so the Saskatoon lineup continues to get younger.

There is no question that the Silos will miss Marchant's defensive ability, since he is considered by some to be the best checking forward in the league. But the Saskatoon GM felt the package offered in return for Marchant was too good to pass up.

"Todd was a big part of our trip to the finals last season," acknowledged the GM. "He'll make Victoria a very dangerous team for the near term. But we get back a versatile forward in Zubrus, plus a good, young power forward in Pyatt. We like the return."

Zubrus can play all three forward positions, so he may not stay at RW, where he played last season. Pyatt should continue his development on the farm in Prince Albert, but he has a shot at sticking with the big club.
