Earlier this week, the Eagles have made a bluckbuster deal with the B.C. huskies cutting the payroll of 17mil.

Going to B.C. is 7 mil man and leading scorer Conroy, 7.5 mil goalie Belfour who stood on his head this year for the team, 3.5 mil man Klatt who spend most of the season on the farm and andy McDonald who was making steady progress.

Coming to Edmonton are LW Bryan Smolinski who was really missed when traded the Eagles last year. Lukowich and Salei bring good active d-men and finally B.Jonhsson who bring a decent back-up to Turco who should take no 1 duty over this year. With the deal EDM have also acquire two first rounder and a third rounder.

We are excited about the deal. We feel we did the right thing for the team. The team didn't perform really well in the playoffs mainly because of a weak left side. We think we fix that problem now with Smolinski. We also think that Hrdina could match Conroy production at center for 6.8 mil less but the team will need to find a good PK centerman.

Wiht the 1st and second pick in this upcoming draft, the Eagles are confirming that they will select Rick Nash with the first overall. The second pick is however still undecided. The Eagles are quite happy with the developpment of some of their prospects especially on d with the likes of Hamhuis, Martin and Erhoff who could sign contract this year. Highly anticipated debut of H.Zetterberg should start this season as well.

Finally, Edmonton should be very active once again in the FA market to fix some whole on the team. However we feel the 1st face of the rebuilding process coming in (rookies) we will be more carefull in our spending.
