Fresh on the heels of one of the biggest trades in Winnipeg history, the Wolves continued the trend towards youth, sending forward Mike Grier and Halifax's 2004 2nd to Ottawa for standout blueliner Tomas Kaberle and Victoria's 2004 3rd rounder.

"We feel this was an offer we absolutely had to make," says an elated GM Kennedy. "Grier is a very good defensive forward, but we feel that's exactly what he'll always be-a solid role player. In Tomas we gain a young blueliner with substantial size and good two way play. We see him developing into a special player and it's not often that you can go from a role player to a special one by only dropping a few places in the draft. It also looks like we won't be a contender until next season and Grier is an FA this year. We have had nothing but positives during Mike's stay here, so there's always the chance we could pursue him in the off season. This trade would look pretty good if it ended up being a 2nd rounder for Tomas now wouldn't it?" said a grinning Kennedy.
