In yet another off-season deal, the Saskatoon Silos acquired defenseman Filip Kuba and prospect Jani Rita from the Toronto Trojans in exchange for center Alexei Zhamnov and left wing Todd Warriner.

Zhamnov had been acquired as insurance in case Robert Lang was lured away in the free agency period, but Lang has instead re-signed with the Silos. "We like Alexei, but there wan't a fit for him in the organization once Langer was signed", said GM Ken McKenna.

As for Warriner, he is a solid, versatile winger who also did not fit into the picture in Saskatoon due to the size of his contract. "We had re-signed Todd with the thought of using him as a depth guy on our roster", stated the Silos' GM, "but other acquisitions have pushed him out of the picture".

In Kuba, the Silos have re-acquired a promising young defenseman. Kuba was with the Silos briefly prior to the 2002 season, but was involved in a trade from the team. Jani Rita provides the club with a solid forward prospect to add to the collection of talent Saskatoon has in the system.

Toronto and Saskatoon have been frequent trade partners in this off-season, with the teams completing 3 deals so far. "I guess me and Jim Bob (Toronto GM Jim Wiese) are on the same wave length", smiled McKenna.
