(QUEBEC)-In what might be described as a 5 car pile up you could see coming the Halifax Harpoons sporting one of the top offenses in the league walked into Quebec and took it to one of the worst defenses in the league by a score of 8-3.

Both Joe Thornton and Jeff O'Neill tallied twice for the visitors and Zigmund Palffy collected four helpers to move him into a tie for the pre-season scoring lead. Mike Richter got the start but was never really tested thoughout stopping 17 of 20 shots to go to 2-0. Other goalscorers for the Harpoons were Peter Bondra, Vladimir Malakhov, Matthias Ohlund, and Eric Lindros. Countering for the Remparts on this night were Martin Straka, Greg Marshall, and Steve Rucchin.

After the game it was revealed that veteran defenseman Sylvain Lefebvre had been moved to the Charlottetown Islanders for young prospect Michael Sivek. Lefebvre had been expressing dissatisfaction with being stuck on the roster of the Halifax GWCHL affiliate in Dartmouth and was on the block.

"We brought in Sylvain to be our #8 defenseman with the big club, but with the acquisition on Ken Daneyko that spot had been filled," explained GM Stephen J. Holodinsky. "As I understand it he'll be pulling a regular shift in Charlottetown and really as a player, that's all you want, a chance to play. We like the return on this deal. We had moved some youth to get Mark Messier and we were in the market to add something to our prospects. We think Sivek will eventually be a good one."
