Johnny, I have loads of welding experience with many different systems, and functionally you can barely weld with a 110VAC stick welder. It just doesn't have the power to push the electrodes. You CAN weld, sort of, but you will usually get weak, poor, slag filled joints, and it is a hell of a way to start your welding career off. I have used a little 110VAC stick welder, and found that pretty much the only electrodes that work very well are 1/16" 6011. It's very difficult to strike and maintain an arc with other formulations or thicker rods. Best of luck with it, but trust me in that you ought to get a better welder. Suggest a gas setup or you can find 110VAC MIG systems that work pretty well. Michael
