Hello,

I learned to weld on aluminum with a Lincoln 135 Pro and was able to get great beads on 1/8" aluminum. My secret was to clean the heck out of the weld area with a SS brush and then I preheated the metals with a small propane torch for about 20 seconds. Make sure you do not go above 300 degrees F or you will mess it up, use a temp indicating crayon if you want. I am willing ot bet if you do this you and your welder will be much happier. The aluminum will turn into a huge heatsink and demand everything your welder has got to get a bead started, that's where the preheat helps. Feel free to email at mkulikow@us.ibm.com if you have any other questions.

Also.....with that 120V MIG I was able to get 100% penetration and good beads on 1/4 Al plate using preheat.
