Hello,

I am looking to build myself a boat dock out of 2x5 aluminum rect. tube. I read in a few textbooks that a square butt weld should not be used if possible and fillets were the best. I am going to join my frame with 45 degree cuts to get the most strentgth out of the joint and was wondering if it would be necessary to chamfer the edges to get a V-groove butt weld? I am using a Millermatic 175 and the Al is .125" thick.

Thanks,

- Mike
