well for those types of projects, you would be better off with a MIG. Tig is too much $$, stick is messy until you get really really good at it, and dont even get me started on flux core, i hate that stuff. you can get a 115volt MIG machine for under 1000 bucks easy, look on ebay and you might find a good deal. i have found many for myself on there. if you get a larger MIG welder, and a good gas setup, you will be able to weld up to around 1/2" steel with 2-3 passes. plus MIG's are more user friendly, and dont require a ton of dexterity, just a steady hand, a pair of gloves, and a welding helmet, and if you decide to splurge, get a welding jacket or shirt, your arms will thank you.
