I'm looking for a good all-round welder. I've gone over lots of posts about what's best, but they seem to be too speciffic for me. My upcoming projects are to add walls to my trailer (angle iron) and build a rear bumper for my truck. the bumper will be 3/16" square with a 1/4" bottom. That's just to start. There will be much more.

I guess you can see that I want to be able to produce nice welds in a variaty of situations.

Would I be looking for a flux type set-up, or a gas setup? Maybe a stick is best for now? heck I don't know. I'm willing to screw up a bunch learning if one of the above is harder to master but is better.

Every time I see a welder with the recommended numbers/features I see a price tag of $1800 or more. I'd like to stay in the $400 price range, even if it is used.

Thanks.
