Subject: Help with Mig welding aluminum

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Lincoln SP-135 Plus Mig welder with the aluminum liner kit. I have read many books and articles which have helped but not really got me where I need to be. I am using 0.035 ER5356 electrode and pure Argon at 20-30 flow rates.

I am attempting to weld 1/8" aluminum. I prep the aluminum by stainless steel wire brush and then cleaning with acetone(not sure but this may be a problem, I am using nail polish remover). Anyways, I am getting pretty good results just laying flat beads on aluminum. Problem is that when I try to do a t-weld, it just bubble gums and doesnt weld even or get good penetration. Any help or suggestions or websites that provide good info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Dave
