I started welding with a stick welder in the fifties.Didnt use a mig until I borrowed one from a friend about 5 years ago.I bought a Miller 130 mig used later. The Mig costs more to run, buying and transporting gas cylinders is another problem.I use my stick welder on most jobs.Flux core wire is expensive and Ive been told paint will be attacked by the flux residue.Mig welders have many parts that can fail.A friend has one that needs a 700.00 circuit board. There are many cheap worthless wire welders on the market.Mig welding is NOT easier to learn.Find a used Lincoln 225 stick welder for starters.A mig that will do the same work as the 225 will cost 2 grand.
