Before: I'm not really sure what the value of IQ tests are. I think IQ tests can be somewhat helpful in helping people on either extreme. People that score very low can acquire services to help them, while people that score high might be more suitable for gifted programs. In terms of practical use, it does not seem like IQ tests have much influence on the average person's daily life. These tests are very expensive, so people are normally tested when something is wrong. For the most part, it's not going to help you get certain jobs or affect your grades in school, so I'm not sure what the point is. Like someone else said, being a mechanic requires a very different set of knowledge than a physicist so a high IQ may not mean that much because certain jobs are content specific. I tend to agree with Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, because people can be very good at math but less effective in verbal skills, although there will certainly be some correlation between some types.

Beyond simply thinking that IQ tests do not have much relevance in our daily lives, I also have some issues with the actual tests. I took a legitimate IQ test administered by my girlfriend for a doctoral class. A lot of the questions would strongly correlate with education level, which seems to contradict the purpose of an intelligence test. I tend to think of intelligence as learning potential, whereas this test had a mix of fluid and crystalized intelligence components. Especially in a culture where numbers mean so much, it does not seem fair that your score could very drastically depending on your level of education. I do not consider myself to be automatically smarter than someone who never went on to college, but this test would suggest otherwise.

After: I feel pretty similar about my opinion on IQ tests. This specific test was much more limited than the real one that I've already taken because you do not have an actual person administering the test, face to face. I want to clarify something about the scores, unless you bought the extra report, you were viewing your scores on a particular area of the test. For example, my score was on the vocabulary portion of the classical test, however, that number was not representative of my overall score. There were many different areas of the test so you might have scored better or worse on other sections. I found the questions on this test to be more challenging than the WAIS. Across the board, the questions were more difficult for the most part. My score on the vocabulary section was similar to what I would have expected, especially since the TV was on in the background. In some regards, this test seemed more fair to people of all educational backgrounds. The logic problems in particular, probably do not have as strong of a correlation to educational background because you rarely see those types of problems in typical classes.
