Hi All,
My name is Jessika Morris and I am a first year doctoral student in the Educational Psychology program. I am currently in Phoenix at a conference for my work, and look forward to meeting you all next week! I am a certified child life specialist (CCLS) at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, where I work with 0-12 year olds who have solid tumors on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. For those who don't know, child life specialists are people trained in education, development, counseling, family theories and therapeutic play - then we use developmental and therapeutic play, education, and emotional support to help children and families understand and cope with difficult medical experiences. My speciality is in working with children and their families at the end of life, so I do a lot of providing support and helping education patients and siblings about death and ways to cope with grief. I am originally from San Francisco, but relocated to Tennessee to do my Bachelor's at Rhodes and my master's at Vanderbilt (my background is in pre-med, religious studies, and applied child development.)
