Hello,

My name is Nelson Moore and currently I work as an ESL teacher in the MCS system. The class seems to be covering some very interesting aspects of psychology and as this is unfamiliar territory for me I must say it's exciting to be here.

My background has been somewhat varied over the course of my life. I grew up in rural parts of Indiana and Alabama. My bachelor's degree is in Political Science and English Literature from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Toward the end of my studies I developed an interest in certain foreign languages (Latin and German). Desiring to live abroad, I worked for a couple of years (2004 & 2005) teaching English in Prague, Czech Republic. Upon my return to the states this background would lead me to become an ESL teacher here in Memphis, TN. I had also developed an interest in Applied Linguistics, which I hope to develop here at the University of Memphis. Over the last three years I've discovered an urban environment that's familiar in many ways but also very different from the communities I grew up in. It's been exciting, however, and I would not trade the experience for anything.

In regards to my interests, they're varied but I'm an avid reader and some of my favorite authors are Homer, Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, William Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy. I also enjoy playing guitar, though mostly at home or with a very close circle of friends. I love a broad range of music but I wouldn't say I like 'all kinds of music'. Though I have less opportunity nowadays I like to travel, see new places and meet interesting and intelligent people. I'm guilty of being a news junkie and am probably too opinionated when it comes to politics.

Well that covers it, nice to meet everyone and I'm looking forward to seeing you all in person tomorrow.

Nelson
