As the mother of a two year old boy, I find myself using behavioristic learniing theories frequently.

Of late, my practice has been focused around helping him learn how to use the "big boy potty". My goal is to teach him that going to the potty is a good thing, something that Mommy, Daddy and Big Brother do, and that he should strive to do as well. In working towards this goal we have developed a system of positive reinforcement. In the beginning, whenever he used the potty he was showered praise and given a treat, one M&M for #1, two for #2. We have now been able to remove the candy as an incentive and he will go to the potty simply for the praise and celebratory dance that results.

Now all that's left to do is get him to the point where he'll go in the potty even when he's not naked. ;)
