I agree with you Nelson that better role models need to be visible to children in the Memphis City Schools as well as in all environments where children spend ample amounts of time. Personally, when I was in elementary school, I always struggled with reading comprehension; therefore, I hated reading. We had posters with encouraging phrases in addition to a rewards system for ARP points. Neither of these tactics worked for me. Perhaps if one of those posters showed my favorite tween heart-throb or favorite actress reading, I might have given reading a second chance.
