I didn't mean to say that they were foolish at all, blah my point came across badly. XD;

Oh, do share! I love discussions ( as you can see from

Mkay then :D;

Lately I've been thinking that Kamui's love for Kotori was more-or-less false; yes, he did love her dearly but in more of a friend/bigger-brother kind of way. It seemed like Kotori was his way to see Fuuma. It always seemed pretty obvious that he cared so greatly for Fuuma, even moreso than Kotori.

The best example I can think of for this is very early in the series when Kamui first came back to Tokyo. Kotori walks up to him asking if he remembers her, and he coldly tells her off. But when Fuuma came up to him, Kamui lingered and spoke willingly. Of course, being cold to Kotori could be viewed as protecting her even further, but a) Kotori is a much much weaker person than Fuuma and Kamui knows it, and b) Kotori is still a determined person, and if he were more understanding with her she definitely would have pressed more.

I'm not saying that he never loved her--he obviously adored her when they were children and as he grew his feelings softened because he was away from them.

However when he came back, Fuuma really pressed and made physical contact, and with as screwed-up of a life that Kamui had had so far, anyone who reached out so openly (both of the siblings had done so, but Fuuma was more forward and such) would easily gain Kamui's love. Plus, there was all the childhood memories of Fuuma making promises to Kamui. Kamui obviously needed someone to love, and also someone who would understand. Kotori was too... weak, I suppose. She had a heart condition and was so emotionally open that others' wounds were terribly painful for her too (remember the scenes with Kakyou). Hearing that Tohru had died so terribly, and all about Kamui's hard life without them, she'd probably really have some problems. Was she ever even told that Tohru died?

Fuuma on the other hand, is such a strong character and that's evident through his promises to protect Kamui, and through the fact that he was elder brother to the previously portrayed weak character.

However my theory gets kind of fuzzy once Kamui starts warming up. Perhaps it was because Fuuma was making him more comfortable, and realizing that Fuuma was competent and strong enough to protect his sister, Kamui grew easier. I don't think his feelings ever returned to their natural state, however. He could have been humoring Kotori--the last time they were together they had such puppy love for each other, and Kotori obviously held dearly to those memories. Telling Kotori that he didn't love her anymore might have broken her heart and Kamui is caring enough to not want to do such a thing.

Another possible explanation is that he was unsure about why he loved Fuuma, and confused, etc. All his life he was teased and tortured by others because he was different, and loving another boy would certainly be different. He might not have wanted to go through any more pain, at least, any more than he knew he was about to go through with the war.

As for when Kotori died and Kamui lost it like that... well, his good childhood friend died horribly right in front of him and he couldn't do *anything* about it. After he promised Fuuma he would protect her. And aside from those reasons, so many people he loved had died before--Saya, his mother, Kyougo, Tokiko... Another death was too much on him.

On the subject of Kotori being unliked... XD yeah I understand that; I went to Anime Central dressed up as her and people really didn't like me. XD;
