I couldn't agree more with the needing characterization part, but I don't think it's going to happen. It looks like CLAMP's rushing to finish the series (well, three month breaks aside, I mean when they actually *do* manage to print of an issue) and a few characters have fallen by the wayside. I have no doubt that he'll come in at least once more before the series ends to tie things up with Yuzuriha, but I don't think we'll get any more characterization out of him than we've already seen. I hope he'll be the first defection to the DoH, personally- that would be kind of interesting- and I'd love to see what the DoE's Kamui does to a traitor ;).
I doubt he'll go out as gloriously as he did in the movie, but I have faith that CLAMP will give us something suitably graphic if he does decide to defect. I mean, he might live and all, and if the DoH win go on to live a sweet, wonderful life with Yuzuriha. But that's not X's style. CLAMP *keeps fingers crossed* was just saving up all their good material with that cheesy ending they gave the anime- not giving anything away. Come on... PLEASE tell me you'll bother to give Yuuto some kind of character development, PLEASE.... Sigh. Maybe they will, maybe they won't.
Then again, I can't say the fandom will exactly be up in arms if Kusanagi falls off the face of the planet. But have faith: he'll come in once more. In Yuzuriha's epilogue if nothing else. Because the chances of them killing off Yuzuriha are slim to none. They can't kill of their little insert of every middle school aged girl reading the damned thing ;). *prays CLAMP proves her wrong* Unless the DoE win, like I want them to- but that's just not going to happen.

I doubt they forgot about him. I'm of the opinion that they must have brought him in for a reason, so I think we'll see him again. If Kamui lives, perhaps he'll help him pull through everything and live a normal life again. Or maybe Fuuma will kill him and push Kamui into fighting him in earnest. Or maybe Kamui will make a kekkai for the sake of protecting him. Who knows. Then again, as with Kusanagi, CLAMP does itself no great harm by writing him off entirely. But I think we'll at least get to see a panel or two of him before the story ends.
