Subject: Threat to Take Child Away?

I just adopted a foster child, Crystal. She's so wonderful, but she has some problems because of the abuse she suffered before we adopted her. Anyway, she likes school, but she's not used to going, because her previous family wouldn't let her go, so she's really behind. Yesterday, she came home from school with an F and I got a call from the school saying that if her grades kept on the same track they'd send her to military school.

I made her do her homework, which was really hard for her, but I'm worried too. I'm worried that because of all the homework, she won't have time to play with the neighborhood kids and make new friends. I was wondering if playing chess might help her grades? Because if it did, then she could play with another child and still be raising her grades too.

Is it possible to home school? I'm just looking for any way to help her get her grades up.

Thank you for your advice,

Mama
