I agree- the useful information disclosed in this chapter would be very beneficial to many parents trying to raise their children. I can't help but think of all of my teen parents that I currently teach, who probably don't know much about being parents. All of the information in this chapter on good parenting styles would be so useful to them. I too find it interesting, although not too surprising that a good relationship between parents results in better parenting. I suppose if the parents love each other and are partners in raising the children, it probably makes this process much easier. Counseling services and information should be more available to parents, particularly those considering divorce, since it seems to generally have a negative impact on children, at least in the short term.

I also think that this information about parenting styles is useful for teaching. I am a first year teacher, just out of college, and I sometimes have no idea what I'm doing. But I do know that I am often in the role of parent-type for my students, espcially since I teach 8th grade. So the idea of an authoritative vs. authoritarian parent can also be translated into an authoritative vs. authoritarian teacher. I think there is more in common between the two than might appear on the surface.
