Well.....at least we got 3 responses.
ALL 3 answers have to be set aside because no one answered the question as to "Where has the remaining $10 gone"?
ALL the answers circumnavigated the question by proferring their own theories.

However, my early verdict and reasonings are as follows:-

1) The legal viewpoint was not incorrect - but defeated the purpose of the Innkeeper offering the $50 discount in the first place because such legal advice probably came at a price much more the $50.

2) Mackie's answer was also not incorrect - but due to his posturing, attempts at driving a hard bargain (Grange Hermitage indeed!) and thus holding back on his answer was inadvertently beaten to the punch by our legal beaver. (whose answer was subsequently disqualified due to cost factors).

3) Our flying Captain's answer was also not incorrect, but due to accusations of the puzzle being allegedley misleading and illogical thus eventually 'shooting the messenger' - this libellous answer has to be referred to our legal beaver for counter action. This means more cost and again will theremore render the $50 discount meaningless.

In conclusion - there is no clear cut winner.
Bless you all!

The irony of the excercise is that the bottle of wine in question happens to be called "THE IDIOT" Shiraz. Ha-ha-ha!

On a more serious note, this 2009 "THE IDIOT" Shiraz picked up 3 trophies and multi-gold medals at Wine Shows including being voted the Best Red Wine at the 2011 Royal Sydney Wine Show. (I attended this Show last year) It is made by Phillip Shaw from the relatively new ccol climate wine growing area of Orange in Western NSW.
It is a fantastic wine with typical Shiraz spiciness, great lifted & intense aromas. It has a deep red colour with purple hues. Can drink now or live for years.

OK - I will bow to pressure, so this bottle is reserved for you guys. I will also kick in 2 x bottles of a very special white wine. It is the Leasingham 2008 Bin 8 'KS' Riesling which is the first time this type of Riesling has been made and released in Australia. It is made in the Germanic style with a degree of fuitiness closest to the sugar level of a "Kabinett Spaetlese". (I guess that's why it's called KS Riesling). Not too sweet and not too dry - it's a wine that will go well with Klang Hokkien Mee or even Bak-Kut-Teh.

End result.....no winners, but also no losers.
Thanks for joining in the discussion.
Next puzzle is when is the Captain getting to Sydney?
The answer appears to be like an Apek in perpetual motion - always coming, but never getting there. Hmmm....?
