It appears that Australia will be signing a FREE TRADE AGREEMENT with Malaysia next Tuesday (Not sure if tomorrow 22 May or next week). Malaysia is Australia's 10th largest trading partner.

Anyhow the following terms have been agreed to:
"Malaysia has committed to allowing Australian service providers majority ownership in a range of service industries, including telecommunications, insurance, education, tourism, accountancy and mining-related services".

It sounds interesting that no majority ownership in Commercial or Manufacturing industries in this FTA - only Service.
However, Malaysians are and have always been allowed majority ownership in virtually any Australian Company.
I will believe it when your Malaysian Ministers will allow foreign ownership of Telecom companies.
The other criteria I guess is 'how much to grease' the right people in order to open up foreign majority owned Companies?

Frankly speaking, I think the Aussies have no idea of what they are getting into with the very experienced incumbent Malaysian politicains.
Well, time will tell I guess.
