Re PM Gillard being barren.....the Press only reported what an outspoken Opposition Senator said......the journalists did not make up that scenario. So do not be mistaken that the Australian public condones that sort of talk.
It was from only one person's mouth!!

This was also said in the context that Gillard "could not understand" what women go though in in regard to baby issues viz paid maternity leave. In other words, Gillard may not have the desired emphaty of affected women as she does not have any children and chose not to have any.
It is important to pinpoint the source of the statement as it is simplistic to say that is the Australian viewpoint when indeed it was only one person's off-the-cuff remark.

Your other points about Rudd's failures are quite valid except there were many more problems than that. He was just a lousy Manager and Administrator and running a country was well beyond Rudd's capabilities.
