Dear all
For those of us who can still remember, let us take a very short walk through our past history and ask how did we survive our childhood?
1)When we were growing up we never wore seatbelts in the car & cars didn't have airbags.
2)Riding on the back of a pick up truck or an open lorry hanging on for dear life was an adventure that we still remember!
3)We didn't have childproof medicine bottles, nor did our parents ever childproof our house by plugging the electrical sockets by blank plugs.
4)When we rode on our bikes, we never wore helmets, or elbow and knee guards. THB’s seat was often the bicycle bar itself.
5)Covered with mud after PE, we would wash and drink water from the pipe. Had no heard of mineral water.
6)We didn't have cell phones, so our parents were never able to reach us to ask what we were doing (awesome).
7)When we got the cane justly or unjustly at school there was never a thought of legal reprisal, it was in fact a badge of honour. We would get scrapes, bruises, break bones, lose teeth, but our parents would never sue for these.
8)We would eat cake, bread and butter, drink sugary drinks and we did not worry about being overweight.
9)We would all drink from the same bottle and that wasn't gross nor would anyone get sick.
10)We didn't have Playstations, Nintendo 64, X boxes, video games, cable TV with over 100 channels, VCR's, surround sound, cellular phones, computers, online chatrooms, instead we would have tons of FUN with our FRIENDS.
11)Some of us weren't as bright as others but that was no big deal and our parents loved us no less no. We were not taken a psychologist to assess our intelligence. Nor did we ever suffer from dyslexia, hyperactivity, ADHD, ADD and whatever …
12)We had freedom, mishaps, successes, failures and responsibilities, and we learnt to deal with them.
The question is... How did we survive? And above all, to pip those who never made it to their 60++ birthdays.
This may sound very boring, but I believe that we were VERY HAPPY CHILDREN....
Best regards
HSS
