To get the best quality the captures should orginally be done in an AVI lossless format, such as the huffyuv codec. Then they should be edited and manipulated in AVI format, saved in AVI format once editing is complete, and then finally converted to a more compressed format such as MPEG. As far as I know this is what Suave does, so the Virtual Dub filters will work.

Yes Me, that is exactly what I do. For 384x288 clips deinterlacing doesn't help, but at higher resolutions it becomes a necessity otherwise motion looks really bad. When I get some free time I will experiment with DivX for higher resolution video clips.

have you tried frame serving with vdub..
saves me loads of time..dont need to worry about messing around with huge uncompressed avi's
btw.. all my stuff is captured at 640x480 mjpeg, quality -18
i would cap at a higher res but this computer cant handle it
