Re: Mpeg resolution -- Alpha_Wolf, 18:05:25 12/02/02 Mon
OOOOOhhhhhhh So that's how you get them so perfect. I did'nt know that cutting down the size removed interlace and other flaws. d=D And yes you should try Divx. The pro version let's you make movies as opposed to just viewing them. And since it is easily converted to a variety of formats i see no reson not to use it. d=D
P.S mail or ICQ me for a serial to cut out the ads in it. d=D

Suave I hope you'll continue making your videos as MPEGs, for the reason you gave in an earlier message. Namely that it plays without problems across all formats.
For Mac users like myself, even with the latest codec installed, DivX is a.nightmare. If the video will play at all, the quality is frequently so poor as to make the video nearly unwatchable!

Hey a Mac user d=D Forgot about you lot. lol. Can't you just easily convert it tho? This will help you out. http://www.divx-digest.com/software/index3.html#encoding

Re: Alpha_Wolf's reply -- Thylacine, 03:23:45 12/04/02 Wed
Thanks for your suggestion.Though as far as I could see all the Mac stuff on that site is much older than the codec I got from www.divx.com.And even at divx.com the Windows stuff is invariably one or two versions ahead of the Mac and Linux codecs and won't play on earlier versions!
I know that there are some utilities for Windows users that will convert a ordinary AVI into an MPEG. But as far as I know there isn't anything similar, or for DivX, for Mac users. There is a discussion about the problem and some possible solutions at http://www.macintouch.com/divx01.html

Re: Question For the Artist. d=D -- Me, 22:56:17 12/06/02 Fri
Suave you can use the de-interlacing filter in Virtual Dub, I think it gives considerably better quality than capping at half res myself.

Virtual Dub. -- Alpha_Wolf, 17:44:33 12/07/02 Sat
But that can only save stuff as avi's. Can't re-save into the original file from what i know.

Re: Question For the Artist. d=D -- Me, 18:10:33 12/08/02 Sun
To get the best quality the captures should orginally be done in an AVI lossless format, such as the huffyuv codec. Then they should be edited and manipulated in AVI format, saved in AVI format once editing is complete, and then finally converted to a more compressed format such as MPEG. As far as I know this is what Suave does, so the Virtual Dub filters will work.

Re: Question For the Artist. d=D -- Suave, 15:17:03 12/09/02 Mon
Yes Me, that is exactly what I do. For 384x288 clips deinterlacing doesn't help, but at higher resolutions it becomes a necessity otherwise motion looks really bad. When I get some free time I will experiment with DivX for higher resolution video clips.

Re: Question For the Artist. d=D -- Ese`, 09:36:07 01/08/03 Wed
have you tried frame serving with vdub..
saves me loads of time..dont need to worry about messing around with huge uncompressed avi's
btw.. all my stuff is captured at 640x480 mjpeg, quality -18
i would cap at a higher res but this computer cant handle it
