Subject: Question About Naming Files

I was wondering why people use a line to fill blank spaces in a file name?

E.G 1 'ss020-Kim_Kilbey_06' [Filled in spaces]

E.G 2 'ss020 Kim Kilbey 06' [Blank spaces]

Is there a good reason to do this? Or is it just a matter of preference. The reason I wish to know is that I'm currently organising all my picture files, and if possible I would like to avoid filling in spaces. Much easier just to use the space bar than reach up and do the underline mark.

Bkeela.

Dont know why other people so it but sometimes i experience problems when the file name is not all connected. This happens a lot on the internet as i think it messes up html coding. Don't think its a problem with files on your computer, just skoolly needs to use the _ because it can experience problems. Maybe someone else could explain it more thoroughly.

Having spaces in the name when posted on the internet will not work as to the reason for having the underscores in there :)

When you put spaces in an Internet file address they are replaced by %20, which is the ascii code for a space, as your browser won't like reading spaces.

When you download, a file, though, the space isn't replaced so it stays as %20. Hence, you can either choose to have 'ss020-Kim_Kilbey_06' on your hard drive, or 'ss020-Kim%20Kilbey%2006'.

I prefer the underscore :)

It's rather simple. The net can't use file names with spaces in them. It stuffs your files and add's all that 20% BS to them. Hence why everything must use an internet space. _ .
