Subject: Women's League Individuals Wanted

Hi Everyone,It has certainly taken some time to send out this email as we didn’t initially have the numbers but now we do. Hence, it is safe to say… “Houston, we have lift off…”I’ve already spoken to most, if not all, of you about the need to revive the Women’s league in Ithaca that has been dormant for quite a while after its initial bright start. The Ithaca United Soccer Club (IUSC) is committed to helping revitalize and reinvigorate women’s soccer league, and you have individually expressed fervent interest in being a vital part of this worthy endeavor. All across this beautiful country, women’s soccer leagues of all sizes and levels of competition are very common as folks have come to realize that it not only provide a great opportunity for fun physical exertion and recreation but also a veritable mechanism for quality social interaction. Put simply, it is a cost-effective way to have fun, full-body workout, and to strike up enduring friendships. Surely, we can restart and sustain a vibrant women’s soccer league in the area like it is happening in other communities of NY State and the country. After a careful assessment of where we are and of the factors that inadvertently hobbled the women’s league in the past, we have come up with a plan that, with your diligent involvement, will help jump-start the women’s league and place it on a solid path of sustainability.The objective is to have at least six (6) teams and for the women’s league to commence by Sunday June 15. We intend to have teams that are relatively evenly matched. Towards this end, we’ll attempt to fairly assign players of differing skill levels and experience into teams. We recognize, of course, that for a variety of reasons including carpooling, some of you would want to be on the same team with your friends. That can be accommodated. But we must do so in ways to prevent one team from being stacked with all the very good players. Overall, the goal is to ensure that all teams have both skilled and not so experienced players to facilitate keen competition, good workout, awesome fun and learning. Accordingly, we would like to:(1) Request that you show up for a pick up game on Sunday June 8 at Cass Park @ 10:00am, and on Thursday June 12 at Ithaca High School @ 6:00pm. The pick up games will double as an opportunity to have a brief organizational meeting.(2) Call on you to help spread the word. Feel free to forward this email and invite any woman soccer player you know. Players of differing skill and fitness levels are welcome and encouraged to show up.(3) Ask that a number of you step forward and volunteer to be team captains.Please note: if you can’t make any of these scheduled pick- up games, no problem. You can choose a team after it has been formed or we can assign you to one. We are also trying to line up sponsors for the soon-to-be-formed teams. If you know of any willing sponsor(s), let us know. See you at Cass Park on Sunday June 8 @ 10am and at I.H.S. on Thursday June 12 @ 6pm. Let’s work to have a vibrant women’s soccer league in Ithaca. Yes, We Can!!! Have a wonderful week.
