Susan,
If you want to understand an addidct and how hard it is to recover, ask one! You will never get the true understanding from someone that has never used. My 18 year old son read thru these, that you, I and kel wrote and said it's amazing how much people REALLY DON"T KNOW! He has never done any kind of drug, only had to watch his parents, and quite a few family members go thru it. I have never sugar coated anything I have ever done while I was getting high, that would only lead back to denial. Or lied about the reasons I was doing it. At the time of using...yes. After I was clean,no. Once again I feel like it is very hard for a none user to understand, yes I think that rehab can give you the tools you need...whatever "tools" might mean, but how often do you find someone that hasn't gone back to rehab 5 or 6 times? And still arent' clean. Why? Because rehabs are ran by people who arent recovering addicts. But at the same time I applaud them for takeing the time, concern for other peoples lives to try to help them! An addict really wants someone to care, not judge them. Yes, it is very hard not to judge, when you see the innocent people that get involved, and the heartbreak they go thru. They don't intened to hurt anyone, but it's very hard to control a mind that is consumed with chemicals. I you ever want to understand addiction, ask an ex-user.
