Heather, I really know how you feel. It hit me hard also when I really looked at my children and saw how I was neglecting their real, deep needs while I was spinning out over my husbands use and all the insanity that came with it, etc. I looked into their eyes and actually felt like I needed to protect them from ME! I was going through so so much at the time and wasn't enough of what they needed. That was when my decision to seriously detach came in. Thank God they are well now but I know that they still have baggage.
