1970/71 Ubon (Ubol Thai spelling)35 miles from Laos, 50 Miles from Cambodia was a forward base and was attacked on numerous occasions. That is why the base was defoliated inside of the perimeter. I'm sure the infield was sprayed also. it was desolate.
I am now 66. I was the entry controller at the main gate (Main gate law enforcement guard in charge) I witnessed spraying on both sides of the main gate (perimeter) on many occasions. The deadly stuff drifted to our location and misted the guards American and Thai, civilians and GI's entering/leaving the base on numerous occasions.
I now have Ischemia, diabetes 2, neuropathy, (legs arms), radical prostate cancer, skin cancer and who knows what else. My brother said I was the poster child for A O. He advised me to make a claim at the V A. I did and in one and a half years am receiving 100% disability.
Aircraft regularly flew 35 feet overhead the main gate, lumbering with their heavy loads, to gain altitude when taking off. Many of these aircraft were filled with AO and were dripping the stuff as they went on their spraying missions. Although I am an exception I am proof that the VA pays for AO in Thailand but says you must have been a military policeman or resided or worked within 500 feet of the perimeter to qualify. If you are not able to submit a formal claim then I would remind them that in order to exit or enter the base you had to go by me ON THE PERIMETER. It was usually a 15 minute procedure in hot dusty conditions to enter or exit the base. This time adding up over a year qualifies most people on Ubon to submit claims for AO. No one stayed on the base for an entire year. Hope this helps if not E-Mail me for more info.
