I believe that animals, specifically pets, can appear after death to people who have owned and loved them. My family owned a cat for about 18 years and after he had died, my mom buried him under a tree in the back yard that he used to love to climb. My sister and I had grown and moved out, but when we came home for Christmas shortly after "Honey" had died, both of us thought that we had felt something jump onto the foot of our beds in the middle of the night and turn in circles and lie down. This happened several times.
I also owned a cat for about 15 years and he was killed by several stray dogs who had torn through my gate. After this horrible incident, I would be woken up at night by the sound of my beloved cat meowing, seemingly outside of my window, in the back yard where he had died. It broke my heart.
