Subject: My old house (that I'm glad I moved out of!)

We moved in to a very old house (mid 16th century) in september 2001. It used to be a barn/stable which was origionally in the grounds of skipton castle. It never had a good atmosphrere but nothing very strange happened either, just the odd strange noise and I used to feel drops of water landing on me when i was just watching telly or similar but there was never anything there. This all changed about two and a half years later when we decided we were going to move out.
The atmosphere became very heavy and I even got to the point where I didn't want to go upstairs on my own even through the day and would not go to bed with out my husband with me at night. It eventually came to a head when my sister in law woke up in the middle of the night (she and my brother wre sleeping on our living room floor) to see an old woman stood by the front door. My 3 year old son complained of being woken up in the night by his blinds and door shaking. We tried to tell him it was just a draft but he demonstrated how they were moving and got quite upset about it. Every now and then a small coin (penny or 5p) would land at my husbands feet out of nowhere, this only happened in the bedroom.
We have now moved but we have recently had a reminder of what was in our old house. My husband was digging through a box of power tools that had not been unpacked for some time. we found a power planer which has a very solid rubber handle that had 3 screws screwed neatly in to it. we could not figure out how they had got there. my husband tried to recreate it and could not screw a screw in to the plastic by hand or with an electric screw driver. Whatever had put them there must have been pretty bloody strong!!!

Anyway, i'm glad to get that off my chest. It was a horrible house to live in and I feel sorry for the next tennants to move in. Incidentaly, the land lords sister used to live in it and she has had the odd unexpected visitor as well. I just wish he'd told us before we moved in, not the day we moved out....
