Hi,
I'm not sure about the Infirmary, but all these old hospitals have an incredible amount of spooky hidey holes, dark locked up places and false ceilings as they've modernised over the years.
I'm afraid any stories I have about some of these places(having been a nurse for years) are fairly minor, but there are odd occurances and uncomfortable places where staff don't like to go on their own at times. Bear in mind though that hospitals don't like people just wandering around as that is a security risk (hospitals have a fair amount of vulnerable and naturally, by they're very nature, ill people. Don't mean to preach so don't take that the wrong way). Perhaps you should consider writing to Lothan Health Board or the board of governers.
Not much help I know but can I suggest that you direct some attention to Napier Universitys' campus on Craiglockart hill?
This building was sold to Napier about 1992 and was formerly an old Psychiatric hospital called Craighouse.
Craighouse encompassed The Thomas Clouston Clinic, East Craig, Queens Clinic and importantly Old craig which is a building dating back to the 16th century.
I was only there once when it was closing (me and a charge nurse) it was a very spooky place (especially as there was only the two of us in the whole place at the time; patients were in transit at the time).
Craighouse has tunnels underneath it (though I doubt you would find them now as it will have been 'done up' by napier) the tunnels connect the wards and there is a tunnel heading outward from old craig itself (its ends about 30 ft towards the city) it was an incredibly spooky place and I'm sure you'll find a thousand stories about there more than any other hospital in edinburgh. Sorry I can't help much more.Over the years I have heard the odd story but sadly I can't really remember much now as we are talking 10 years past.
